      The Kona Coffee Council and John Knorek, Torkildson Law Firm, Honolulu, are offering a lively, three-hour forum followed by a question and answer period on federal and state labor laws as they affect farmers and processors of farm products.  This informational forum was originally publicized for coffee farmers and processors, but the Kona Chapter of the Hawaii Farmers Union has been asked to broaden the audience to all interested farmers.

      The Forum will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013, from 9:00 am to noon, in the CTAHR meeting room in Kainaliu. Up to date,  informative and detailed reference materials will be available to you free from the USDOL, State DLIR and knowledgeable attorneys.  Light refreshments will be offered.  There is no charge for attendance, and there will be no sign up sheet.

      The Kona Chapter of the Hawaii Farmers Union United encourages everyone to join in the Forum for an in depth refresher on federal and state labor laws.  You will have an opportunity to give feedback to both federal and state regulators on what is working and what is not working on your farm.  Please, feel free to spread the word to the membership of other farming organizations in which you participate.  You will not want to miss this lively discussion and unique learning opportunity.
