ALOHA HAWAII COFFEE FARMERS!!
We are now taking entries for the HCAs 4th Annual Statewide Cupping Competition! There will be a few changes this year, and I wanted to make sure you were aware of these changes before entering this years competition.
1) This year we will only require 3 pounds of green Hawaiian grown coffee for your entry. You will be required to furnish your farms TMK number, but HDOA Certification is not required.

2)You are allowed three entries per TMK number, but each entry must specify if there is coffee available for sale from the respective harvest lot submitted. There will be two broad divisions in this years competition and you will need to select which one applies to your entry. The Commercial Division applies to entries with a minimum of 300 pounds of green coffee (from the sample submitted) available for sale. The second division is the Creative Division which has less than 300 pounds of green coffee available for sale. You will need to select the entry form for the division that applies to your sample entry.

3)Awards will be given to the Top Three Coffees in each Certification District (for districts with a minimum of six entries). There will also be an announcement of the Top Ten in the Creative Division, the Top Ten in the Commercial Division, and the Champions in each division will receive an award. We will post the score and ranking of all coffees scoring 80 and above unless you prefer not to have your scores released. You will have the option to specify on your entry form if you dont want your scores released. You will still receive your certificate highlighting your coffees positive aspects and a letter informing you of your Rank, Score, and additional aspects (negative or positive) the Cuppers detected in your coffee.

4)In order to protect uninfested areas from CBB, all green entries will be numbered, shipped and sent to the mainland for cupping. The Cupping Panel will be available at the HCA Conference. They will be giving presentations and spending more time giving farmers feedback on what can affect cup quality. The announcement of winners, awards, and certificates
will be held at the HCA Conference Saturday, July 21st at the Maui Tropical Plantation. We will have a sampling of the Top 20 Coffees at the Conference with the public providing input on their impressions of the coffees

5) ALL BIG ISLAND ENTRIES MUST BE SENT TO GREENWELL FARMS. ALL ENTRIES OTHER THAN THE BIG ISLAND MUST BE SENT TO MAUI OMA COFFEE ROASTING CO. Please fill out your entry form, enclose your check or credit card information, and send your 3 pound green bean sample to your proper collection station.

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY MARCH 15, 2012.
